Most of the engine was rebuilt in the spring -99 as a preparation for the Italy-trip. But some additional work was done during the winter 99/00.

In the spring -99 I didn't have access to the garage that I am working in right now, so I had to borrow my fathers garage. A bit more primitive than now but it worked!

During rebuild a number of parts where exchanged like crankshaft, cam chain, oil pump, plus all the usual parts like bearings, piston rings etc. Since the bores looked real good I didn't rebore the block, just honed it.

One thing I didn't touch then was the head, including the rocker mechanism. If you take a look at the pictures you can see why I had to do that later!

This is a detail of the axle in the rocker mechanism, you can see how worn the axle is where the rocker used to be!

This is a picture of the rocker itself, you can see for yourself what the damaged axle has done to the bearing (or the other way around).

So one mission of the winter 99/00 was to exchange the rocker mechanism to a new one. Besides that I also line-honed the engine-block to make sure that all the main-bearings were in line. When I had the engine out of the car I also cleaned it up and gave it a good paint.

Anyway, this is what the engine looks like after dismantling, cleaning, assembly and painting, not so bad huh?
