One of the missions of winter -00 was to restore the engine bay, it had hardly been cleaned during the last 10 years or so. In the picture below you can see what it looked like after removal of the engine. Mostly it is a lot of dirt and oil, not that much rust except for some of the screws which had to be drenched in rust-solver to undo.
This is what the engine bay looked like half way through the job, as you can see everything is taken away for cleaning and painting and some of the paint is removed. All panels are quite sound, not as much rust as I thought it should be. The worst parts are around where the main brake cylinder in mounted, I guess brake fluid has had its way with the paint with rust as a result.
The most time-consuming work was to clean, remove old paint from and repaint all the bigger parts, when that was done the cleaning and painting of the engine bay itself was pretty straightforward.
Below you can see what the engine compartment looked like after cleaning and painting and halfway though the process of mounting all parts. I was thinking of doing the paint-job myself but since there is a paint-shop in the same garage I let them do the job. I didn't thought that it would take that long to put everything back!
